Step by Step Tutorial for Learning Computer-Aided Design
Five levels in teaching order, about 235 hours of modelling, from your first sketch to engineering assignments you plan yourself.
Read the print, then model it
- Drawings follow standard practice: third-angle views at one scale
- Sections where the inside matters
- Every dimension comes from the project's table
- The 3D model is built from the same numbers: turn it, then switch to the drawing

How a project works
- 1
Read the brief and the drawing
- Purpose, requirements and a dimension table
- Most projects also have a dimensioned drawing
- Easier parts also come as a 3D model
- 2
Model it in Onshape
- In your own Onshape account, in another tab
- Early projects explain every click
- Later ones give only requirements
- 3
Verify it
- Tick the checklist
- Enter what Onshape measures
- CADEMY checks each value against the specification
- 4
See what it did for your skills
- The skills the project used move up
- By more when it was harder or done with less help
CADEMY checks the numbers you read from Onshape, not your document itself.
Why not open my model directly?
- Reading your model would mean asking for access to your Onshape account.
- CADEMY deliberately does not ask for that access, so it never sees your documents.
- Instead you read a few values with Onshape's Measure and Mass properties tools, and CADEMY checks them against the drawing.

Foundations
From an empty Part Studio to fully constrained parts.
- 230 projects · P-031–P-060
Intermediate
Recognizable mechanical parts, built to change.
- 330 projects · P-061–P-090
Advanced
Curves, surfaces, top-down design and assemblies that move.
- 430 projects · P-091–P-120
Engineering CAD
Design intent, debugging, sheet metal, manufacturing and drawings.

Master / Capstone
Engineering assignments with minimal guidance.
What CADEMY keeps track of
Skills, not just ticks
102 skills, each with a short lesson. They move up only through completed projects.
Hints that teach
Four hints per project, from the idea to the exact feature, then the full solution.
Review at the right time
Skills come back for review on a spaced schedule, sooner when they needed help.
Start at the right level
Used CAD before? A placement test finds your starting level and the gaps to fill.
